How To Apply For A Non-Immigrant Visa
With very few exceptions, applicants must appear personally for a visa interview. Interviews are by appointment only. Visa issuance cannot be guaranteed. Appointments cannot be scheduled or changed directly through the Embassy or Consulates.
Appointments are scheduled via the website:
If, after using the website you need technical assistance, please call the help desk at (+39) 06 9480 3777 (Italian Number) or 703-439-2365 (US Number). You may also use Skype at usvisaitaly.
On the day of the interview, applicants must present the originals of all required documents. Only applicants with interview appointments will be allowed inside the Consulate. There may be a wait of two hours for the interview.
For security reasons you may enter only at the scheduled appointment time. Do not arrive early. DO NOT bring bags, backpacks, suitcases, baby carriages or any other large or bulky objects. The consulate cannot store them, and you will be refused entry. We advise you to not carry any electronic objects, either. All electronic objects (iPads, MP3 players, computers, mobile phones, etc.) must be checked with security, and can be retrieved as you exit. This can create a delay for you. The embassy is not responsible for any article you leave with the security checkpoint.
We advise you to NOT make final travel plans or purchase tickets before receiving your visa. There is no guarantee you will receive a visa, and sometimes long delays are possible for those who do receive a visa.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have already paid the MRV fee (“visa fee”) at BNL before June 29th 2013, you cannot schedule a visa interview appointment at any US Consulate location (Milan, Florence or Naples) or the US Embassy (Rome) in Italy with our new scheduling system. Instead, please e-mail us at the location where you wish to interview and we will assist you to schedule an appointment.
If you are renewing your visa, and meet specific requirements, you do not need an interview.
