[…] A first meeting of the TEC was held in November 2007 in Washington, DC, and today the TEC has met for a second time in Brussels, under the chairmanship of Guenter Verheugen, Vice President of the European Commission, and Daniel Price, Assistant to the President for International Economic Affairs.
The outcomes of today’s meeting show the firm commitment of both sides to reach our common objective of economic integration.

[…] The transatlantic market today accounts for nearly 55 percent of global GDP. Transatlantic economic relations are strong, but can be made even stronger. Both the United States and Europe believe in strong and effective regulation to protect our citizens and the environment. However, in some cases, unnecessary differences in regulatory approaches make our companies less competitive, raise consumer costs, reduce consumer choice, and slow job creation. |
[…] "The government has reduced corruption in its bureaucracy," says Daniel Fried, assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. "And the World Bank named the Georgian government the world's leading reformer last year."
Fried, speaking November 1 at the "Developing Europe's East" conference in Tbilisi, Georgia’s capital, said the former Soviet republic has enacted economic reforms that vaulted it from 112 to 18 on the World Bank's Doing Business report, and Georgia continues to attract increasing sums of foreign investment.

[…] Some countries and international aviation organizations have acknowledged that more needs to be done to address relatively small, but growing, greenhouse gas emissions produced by aircraft, and already have taken steps to address them. The aviation sector is responsible for only 3 percent of the total emissions of gases that are believed to contribute to global warming. In contrast, power-generation and the transportation sector as a whole represent 33 percent and 21 percent respectively of those emissions. |
[…] President Bush and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet on the margins of the Group of Eight (G8) leaders’ meeting and discuss the proposed U.S. missile defense system in Europe, U.S. National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley said June 4.
"This missile defense cooperation we're talking about, involving the Czech Republic and Poland, is all about threats to Europe from rogue states and others.
It is not about and does not pose a threat to Russia," Hadley said aboard Air Force One traveling to Prague, Czech Republic.
[…] The 10 missile interceptors proposed for Poland and an advanced radar facility for the Czech Republic are designed to protect against long-range ballistic missiles from the Middle East. These missile defense elements would be operational in 2013. Intelligence projections show that Iran – if it chooses to do so -- will have long-range missiles capable of reaching Europe and the United States by 2015.
[…] Joint commitments on a broad range of economic and security issues were signed April 30 during the annual U.S.-EU summit in Washington.
President Bush, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso signed the trans-Atlantic economic partnership plan under which the two trading partners will establish a framework for business integration by streamlining regulatory standards that are often different between the trans-Atlantic partners.
|
[…] When President Bush welcomes European Union leaders April 30 to the White House for an annual summit, officials say the leaders will showcase how half a century of trans-Atlantic partnership has created a wide-ranging partnership on a host of political, security, and economic issues.
“We're working today with the EU on the full range of global challenges,” Judy Ansley, director for European affairs at the National Security Council, told reporters at an April 26 White House briefing. |
