Anna Borg

Deputy Chief of Mission

Anna Borg takes up responsibilities as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Rome, Italy in August 2005. She served previously as Chief of Staff for the Under Secretary of Economic, Business and Agricultural Affairs (2004-2005) and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy, Terrorist Finance and Sanctions in the Economic and Business Affairs Bureau (2000-2003). Prior to this she was the Director of the Office of the United Kingdom, Benelux and Ireland Affairs (1999-2000) and Deputy Chief of Mission at the American Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (1996-1999).

Anna Borg began her Foreign Service career in 1978 after working at the World Bank and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Her Washington assignments include: Policy Advisor to the Deputy Secretary, Special Assistant to the Under Secretary for Economic Affairs, Deputy Director of the Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh Office, and Italian Desk Officer.

She has received a Presidential Meritorious Service Award, Superior Honor Awards, and the 1988 Dunn Award.

She received a B.A. from Swarthmore College, M.A. from George Washington University, D.E.A. from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, and attended the National War College. Her languages are French and Italian. She is married to Ambassador Parker Borg (retired); they have three daughters.

Vice Capo Missione

Anna Borg assume la responsabilità di Vice Capo Missione dell'Ambasciata degli Stati Uniti d'America in Italia nell'agosto 2005. In precedenza è stata Capo di Gabinetto del Sottosegretario per gli Affari Economici e l'Agricoltura (2004-2005) e Vice Direttore Generale responsabile per l'Energia, finanze del terrorismo e sanzioni presso la Direzione Generale per gli Affari Economici (2000-2003) del Dipartimento di Stato. Ha inoltre diretto l'Ufficio per il Regno Unito, il Benelux e l'Irlanda (1999-2000) ed è stata Vice Capo Missione dell'Ambasciata USA di Kuala Lumpur, in Malesia (1996 - 1999).

Anna Borg è entrata in diplomazia nel 1978 , dopo aver lavorato alla Banca Mondiale e all'Organizzazione per la Cooperazione e lo Sviluppo Economico. Per il Dipartimento di Stato a Washington ha ricoperto anche i seguenti incarichi: Consigliere politico del Vice Segretario di Stato, Assistente particolare del Sottosegretario per gli Affari Economici, Vice Direttore dell'Ufficio per il Pakistan, l'Afghanistan e iln Bangladesh e responsabile dell'Ufficio per l'Italia.

Ha ricevuto un Presidential Meritorious Service Award, vari Superior Honor Awards e il DunnAward nel 1988.

Anna Borg si è laureata allo Swarthmore College. Ha poi conseguito un Master alla George Washington University, un D.E.A. all'Ecole des Hautes Etudes in Scienze Sociali, e frequentato il National War College. Parla francese ed italiano. Coniugata con l'Ambasciatore Parker Borg (ora in pensione), hanno tre figlie.
