The Host Country Internship Program at Tri-Missions Rome is an independent program, not to be confused with the U.S. State Department Internships Program which is addressed to American students residing and studying in the United States and thus administered from Washington directly. Further information on the U.S. State Department Internships Program can be found at http://careers.state.gov/student/programs/student_internships.html
Our Host Country Internship Program, launched in November 2005, is open to non-U.S. citizen students of Italy-based universities, who wish to gain academic credit as well as valuable work experience while providing key support to Tri-Missions sections.
The U.S. Mission signed an agreement with CRUI, the Italian Council of University Rectors, in March 2008, which allows the Mission to draw interns from ANY Italian public university.
Internships are unpaid and their duration may vary depending on mutual needs, although recent examples have averaged three to six months. Full-time and part-time schedules may both be considered based on the intern’s study commitments.
All selected interns need to obtain a Security Certification as well as a Medical Check prior to the beginning of their internship. All administrative procedures are taken care of by the Office of Human Resources at the American Embassy of Rome.
All interested students should do the following:
- Contact the Ufficio Tirocini or the person in charge of the internship programs/tirocini within their own university;
- Apply to internship positions that become available within Tri-Missions Rome through the Ufficio Tirocini - or the person in charge - of their own university;
- Express their interest for each internship position that becomes available with an introductory letter and an up-dated resume to be presented to the Ufficio Tirocini of their own university.
The Office of Human Resources of the American Embassy of Rome contacts the universities on a regular basis to alert them whenever there is a request for interns within the various sections at Tri-Missions Rome in order to solicit applications from university students. A description of each internship position available at any given time is provided to the Ufficio Tirocini of local universities so that they can advertise accordingly among students. Tri-Missions Rome offer, on average, ten internship positions at any time.
THINGS TO REMEMBER:
- First point of contact for students interested in our Host Country Internship Program at Tri-Missions Rome is the Ufficio Tirocini of their university or the person/professor in charge of internship programs/tirocini;
- Internships/tirocini within the Tri-Missions Rome are open to non-U.S. citizens only.
