On InterCity or EuroStar trains, claims can be filed if bags were stored in the baggage areas at the head of the car (not above the seats) or if the theft occurred on a night train in a sleeper car/couchette and the traveler was in the room, with the door locked at the time. Trenitalia limits the amount that can be restituted. To file a claim, traveler must present a copy of the police report of the theft and a copy of his ticket or Eurail pass to either a train station ticket counter, or by sending the documentation to the Customer Service Representative, Trenitalia, Rapporti con I Clienti, Piazza della Croce Rossa, 1, 00161 Roma.

However, if you purchased insurance for the Eurail pass at the time the pass was issued, Eurail will reimburse the traveler for the unused portion of the pass. Documentation (such as a police report of the incident) is required; check www.alleuroperail.com for the latest information.
