DEMONSTRATION NOTICE: LABOR DEMONSTRATION MONDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 2010 IN ROME

The U.S. Embassy in Rome is aware of a labor demonstration that will take place on Monday, February 8. Approximately 900 demonstrators are expected to march from Piazza della Repubblica to Via Molise in support of an Italian company named Merloni. The demonstrators are scheduled to depart Piazza della Repubblica at 10 am and travel to the Ministry of Economic Development on Via Molise. The demonstration should end at 2 pm.  Local Police may have to shut down some streets in the general area on Monday morning and there may be an increased police presence in front of the U.S. Embassy.

The U.S. Embassy recommends that U.S. citizens avoid the area around Via Molise and Piazza della Repubblica during the demonstration, and that you remain alert in the area before and after the demonstration.
